Matty Ice in million dollar time shows off his storytelling songwriting, vocal fluxes, and a down-to-the-point catchy flow. Starting with a gloomy yet imbuing set of stringed instruments, the introduction does not miss at captivating the listener. At the end of the beginning one is still left guessing whether they’re listening to a synthesized guitar or an oriental cittern of some kind, a song trait that is to be held to its highest prestige. Matty Ice breaks into the song immediately setting a date, 1999, when “a young legend was alive”, putting himself on a pedestal of future success. Ice tells a story of the most memorable aspects of his life. Growing “up with [some] crimes”, the days where cartoons replaced class time, and the confusion of having intoxicating lust but no love.
Million dollar time is the incarnation of his hustle, that results from his need to shine on the world when the world fails to shine on him. Ice makes it his top priority to make it as a success (or at least as a millionaire) to redeem his life of being down bad, amongst the other mentioned struggles. The young Maryland rapper mentions the hard fact of needing to cut out all distractions to get to the smooth sailing phase of life called the million dollar time.
Once upon a time Matty Ice was down and no one wanted to help him off his feet. With a drastic change of pace stating that he came “straight out the mud [and] never got a chance to clean [his] cleats” Ice metaphorically paints the picture that his come-up is quick and still going. Furthering this chapter of the story in a very ironic way, the rapper shows that he’s receiving hate from the same people that refused to help him when he was down, and that he now sees the same girl twice a week suggesting that he now sees other women. Matty Ice seems to be unbothered about the struggles of his past now that he’s busy counting money towards his million dollar time. Don’t try to call him now if you knew him because now he’s just going to say “no no, no no, I’m on my million dollar time, I’m on my million dollar time”
