Artist of the Week: Mongie

A new week brings a lot of new things. You’re bound to come across something for the first time that gives you a refreshing an experience. And thankfully, this week’s artist of the week delivers that and then some.

Mongie is a comic creator, illustrator, and concept artist popularly known for her addictive Let’s Play Webtoon comic series. The featured comic follows a group of characters with the main one being Sam, an intelligent woman who’s an upcoming game developer. Upon releasing her first game, her ratings get bombed with bad reviews thanks to a popular streamer giving a harsh critique to his loyal fan base. What makes things more complicated for the talented programmer is that the person who dealt her so much turmoil is now her next door neighbor.

As interesting as the premise of this Webtoon is, what truly makes it such a binge worthy comic is the multitude of characters introduced that are just as interesting as Sam. And they too have their own stories laced with drama they must deal with. On top of dealing with their own past trauma that has left them emotionally damaged in more ways than one.

What Mongie does throughout this comic, bringing up mental health issues by subsequently opening important dialogues about sexual exploration, healthy relationships, and transparent communication is what draws so many. The powerful messages that she embeds into her stories has made many grow fond of these characters. Due to this, she has had a lasting impact on fans that’s led to success.

Routinely receiving at least 100,000 likes each week and sporting a huge fanbase with nearly 300,000 followers on Instagram, Mongie has built a strong and supportive fan base that has catapulted her career. Just recently, the comic was picked up to receive a live-action TV show adaptation.

If you didn’t know about Let’s Play before, then be sure to know about it. The third season premiere was released this week, so there’s plenty of episodes to catch up on.

And if the numbers are any indication, it’s worth the hype.
